Grand Alderman of Benevolence Report

R.A.O.B. G.L.S.A. A.B. Report. No. 1, May 2008.

Brethren good day to each and every one of you. To introduce myself, my name is Lawrence Rothwell. R.O.H. and I have the honour of being elected the A.B. at this years Easter session for the second time, having previously held the office for the years 1996 and 1997. Hopefully I will be able to cast my net still further to gather information thanks to the internet and your Email addresses, which I hope you do not mind me utilising the same to send you copies of the updated A.B. reports. From my previous experience as the G.L.A.B. obtaining information is not an easy job. So therefore brethren on this my first exploratory report, I sincerely hope my pleas for your assistance do not fall on stony ground. I had asked both our Grand Secretary Bro. Desmond Woods R.O.H. and Bro. Dirk Geddes. R.O.H. (The editor of our unofficial journal) for any Email addresses they may have. Thanks to both of these brethren, I can now hopefully make contact with brethren in Zimbabwe, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.A. At one time I was also in contact with brethren in Canada and Botswana, can anyone help me with these. Getting down to the A.B. nitty gritty, the last thing you need is to receive a report containing all doom and gloom. Brethren by all means advise me of your sick and deceased Brethren, along with the happy occasions, whereby Bro. So and So has just completed a magnificent period in our order. Your Lodge having celebrated a special occasion, and any other special mention. Our Easter Grand Lodge session was held in the magnificent Drakensburg mountain area at the lovely Mountain Park Hotel. Bro. Raymond Savory. K.O.M. being elected to Grand Primo 2008 along with his Deputy Bro. John Ambrose.R.O.H. and Officers. Bro. Paul Carr. R.O.H. the immediate Past Grand Primo was warmly thanked by all of the brethren for the wonderful term of office he had just completed. Bro. Paul is also making a fine job of running the G.L.S.A. website, which can be reached via http://www.raob.co.za

Brother Walter Lewis Gasson.R.O.H. G.L.S.A. Life Member, pays a visit to the G.L.S.A. for every Easter session along with his lovely lady Sandra. Wally as he is known, having spent many years in South Africa, now resides in the U.K. and has wasted no time in familiarising himself with a new Lodge and visits to the G.L.E.sessions where he was introduced to the brethren as a Past Grand Primo of South Africa. At the Easter session of G.L.S.A. Brother Wally was elected to represent the G.L.S.A. at the G.L.E. sessions. A letter to this effect was given to Bro. Wally and hopefully the same letter was sent to the Grand Secretary G.L.E. This action we trust will act as a recipital agreement between the two Grand Lodges and therefore smoothing the way for recognition for brethrens credentials etc. I received an out of the blue Email from Bro. Tony Fanthorpe. R.O.H. past Grand Primo. G.L.S.A. Bro. Tony now in his eighties and spending a lot of time in his wheelchair, cannot get through to the local Lodges without difficulty. Bro. Tony tells me he is an annual member of one of the Lodges. Bro. Norman Houghton R.O.H. of P.E. is on my A.B. list, how’s about asking one of the brethren to pop around and see Bro. Tony, who knows, with a lift to Lodge you may get back a great buff. Anyhow Tony, if you read this, love to Ella and best wishes to yourself. On the home front Bro. Roy Masterson R.O.H. Past Grand Primo.G.L.S.A, having recently undergone heart surgery now finds his wife Sylvia is in the same position and will be going into the Westville Hospital Natal this coming Wednesday. Love and best wishes from us all Sylvia, here’s hoping your operation is as successful as the one carried out of Roy.To Brother Syd in the States, whilst out of sight you are still in our minds. Best wishes from all Syd. To Bro. Eric Cook. R.O.H. of the Pride of Mutare Lodge No. 6645 in Zimbabwe. This I am given to understand is now the sole surviving Lodge in Zimbabwe. Bro. Eric, I think I can speak on behalf of all of the brethren in hoping your wonderful country gets back to its rightful place on the African continent, as a shining example of peace and tranquillity. We wish yourself and the brethren all of the very best for the future and safe keeping in god’s hands. Finally to Brother Eddy Metcalf. R.O.H. Hon. Mem. G.L.S.A. Past Grand Primo. G.L.S.A. all of the very best for the future on his forthcoming return to the UK.

Bro. Eddy, recently married to his lovely French-speaking wife Monique, after spending a short holiday in the U.K. recently, has now decided to return to the U.K.. After spending half a lifetime in East Africa and South Africa Bro. Eddy our sad loss is a gain for whichever Lodge you may attend in the Middlesex area of the U.K.. Brethren I did not intend to write monologue, but hopefully I have covered all I can in this my first report, so please give me some feedback or I shall haunt the lot of you. Yours fraternally, Bro. Lawrence Rothwell R.O.H. G.L.S.A. Hon. Mem. G.A.B.

P.S. This being my first report I am hoping to have my second report on an official AB report document which is at present in the pipeline.
